Here I was thinking that we'd have kind of a normal week, and then everything went crazy instead! There probably are no normal weeks on a mission and I should stop waiting for one to happen.
It's been super windy a couple days we've been out, which is kind of fun except when you try to go tracting. It's really hard to help strangers feel the spirit and accept the restored gospel when you're trying not to Marilyn Monroe it too hard on their front porch. Maybe we need to sew fishing weights into the hems on our skirts to keep them from blowing around so dang much. Or wear longer skirts. That's probably the real solution.
We had kind of a fun road trip partway through the week. We found a prospective elder that we'd never met on our list and so we decided to drop by his address because we didn't have a phone number for him. He lives like eight miles out of Mandan, so we went cruising down this country highway through rolling farmland for a while to get there. Don't think he's that interested in coming back to church, which is a bummer, but maybe he'll surprise us. I needed a little adventure to perk me up, anyway, because it was a really, really rough week for some reason.
My favorite less-active we met this week is a senior lady named Carol. She's really friendly and kind of hilarious. She's from New York and has a massive lynx/tabby mix named Cyrano, who, as far I can tell, spends most of his time terrorizing the retirement community she lives in (he's not invited to the other pets' birthday parties and let's just say they no longer have a koi pond). She says that she's been thinking about coming back to church for a while and she's really social and open about it, so I think that once she gets some personal matters worked out she'll come back.
We became a trio halfway through the week, which has been a really interesting so far. The STL who had a concussion had to go home temporarily so that she can recover more quickly, so until she gets back, we have another companion! Sister Seegmiller is also from Bountiful and she's a ton of fun, so I think it'll be a good experience for the next couple of weeks. It's kind of crazy trying to get three missionaries on the same page, though. We were really unproductive this weekend because it took us like twenty minutes to make any kind of decision. Hopefully we'll get into it a little bit more because that dynamic is not going to help my distress levels at all. I was just starting to feel unified with Sister Wells and now we have to adjust to a new companionship all over again.
We had the weirdest fast and testimony meeting yesterday. Between the recently reactivated guy who got up twice because he forgot to mention one of his misdeeds the first time and the African investigator who stood up at the back of the chapel and sang all the way to the pulpit to bear her testimony, it was the most interesting fast and testimony meeting I've ever attended. Sister Seegmiller leaned over to me partway through and said, "I should come to your ward every week!"
We have a really great opportunity this weekend to go to a nondenominational Nashville Tribute Band concert in Minot. The whole mission is going up there and it's kind of a big deal, so that should be a really good experience. The gospel brings a lot of joy to our lives and there are a lot of ways to show that and enjoy it.
Longest email ever. You're all amazing! Until next week!
