Hey all! It's been kind of a crazy week. Getting all of Sister Wells' crap packed up was a real struggle. Turns out you accumulate a lot of junk when you live as a missionary for 7 months. And then we had to send a random package home for her on the way to transfer meeting, so things were kind of nuts on transfer day. But we got through it! And now I have a new companion! Sister Cavey is kind of a boss. I was super, super scared about getting a new companion. Our area is pretty slow still and I was worried about not having anything to show for my time here. Sister Cavey is great, though. She just finished training another sister, so she's pretty patient with the fact that I have no idea what I'm doing. It has been kind of humbling because she's basically taking the reins on this area and is just whipping it into shape. But I'm trying to remember that it's an opportunity to learn, even if it's hard to feel like I don't have very many good ideas for how to fix things up in Mandan. It needs the help, though, so I'm really grateful to have an experienced missionary here to take care of it. Good things coming for Mandan, I can feel it!
Miracle of the week: We went to find this less-active member named Andrew that I've been trying to get ahold of for a couple months. We knocked on his door and nobody answered, and then on our way out Sister Cavey saw a big black guy kind of milling around the other side of the street. So we went to talk to him and he was there waiting for a homeless guy to give him some food, so we got to talking about the church and his life. His name is Jarvis (but his friends call him "Hevy." He said we should probably just call him Jarvis, though). But yeah, he said that if we'd taken the time out of our day to talk to him, he could take some time to go to church. And then the homeless guy showed up and was like "Mormon missionaries? I'm Mormon! My name's Andrew!" It was crazy! He and Jarvis are buddies, though, and we're hoping that we'll be able to teach them sometime this week. But yeah, there's no way we would have found Andrew if things hadn't played out exactly like that. It was amazing.
Since we're kind of starting from ground 0 here, we haven't done a ton of work this week. We've been planning and I'm trying to give Sister Cavey the rundown on who everyone is (because that's one thing I'm actually got a handle on, haha) We've got a lesson with Doug at the Andersons tonight and we're going to invite him to be baptized, so here's hoping! We've got lots of potentials to visit next week and we're going to start working with our less-active members, so things should be picking up! It's kind of crazy, but I already feel way more productive as a missionary in these last couple days that I had before.
The work moves on! Thanks for the support! Love you all!
