Week 18: Where is everybody?

Been kind of a slow week for us. Sister Cavey was sick at the beginning of the week so we took it easy for a couple days. Not that we had to cancel any appointment or anything. We're having a really hard time finding people to teach. We're trying to work with the members, but that's going pretty slowly. It's been hard to get in with people because so many families are out of town for the summer, but we're going to keep working on it! We might start having scripture study with a family whose oldest daughter is majorly less-active, so that'll be good.

Sister Cavey and I will talk about how there are supposed to be people prepared here in Mandan, and then she'll say, "Where ARE they?" It's funny, but it's also true. I'm not sure where all these prepared people are hiding, but I know that God's not going to just hand them to us. We've got to keep working with what we can and he'll provide us with miracles in his time. That doesn't make it less hard, but it'll all make sense in time.

We had a church tour with Doug and it went really well. He had lots of good questions and we talked him through the whole room and the service and everything. But then at the end he declined our invitation to come to a Sunday service with us, which was the worst. We did figure out a couple of his concerns about what his mom would want for him and things like that, so hopefully we'll be able to address those concerns, but we might not be teaching Doug for much longer.

We started teaching someone named Gerard, and he's awesome! He always asks lots of good questions and he came to church. Says he'd like to come again and he's just a great guy. Hopefully he continues to progress and actually read the Book of Mormon like he promised :)

A few miscellaneous things:
We went to the Heritage Center last p-day, so there's some pictures of that attached. It's like a natural history museum and ND history museum, and it was super cool! I'd love to go again sometime.
There's a snowcone shack in Bismarck and we've already been like 3 times because it's pretty dang good. Summer's going to be rough on my blood sugar levels.
I used an ear candle. That was the weirdest experience of my life. It didn't give me super hearing or anything, which is what I was hoping for, but it did make space in my ear for some water to get stuck in there for a full day. Not sure if that's good or bad or just too much information.

I've been thinking a lot about the small witnesses of the spirit. Those tiny moments when you feel at peace or you feel the spirit are what really what builds your testimony, so take time to appreciate those little things when they happen! I've had a few sweet moments like that this week, and even though it's been a harder one I'm grateful for the things I've learned. Still got a lot of concerns and things to work on, but it'll come in time. That seems to be the theme of this email. Good things come with faith in the Lord's timing.

Thanks for your prayers and I hope everything is going well with you!
