Week 36: Where are we, again?

For some reason it was a really long week and I can't think of what we did, actually. Lots of dropped investigators and missed appointments. It's getting pretty dang chilly up here, too, so tracting is taking more and more faith. Not looking forward to when it's super dark after daylight saving next week because people are already using the "it's too late for visitors" excuse at like 7:30 around here. Here are some highlights from the week, though!

June is doing really well! We brought a member to a lesson with her and it was a good experience for both of them. June was really confused by all the accounts in the front of the BoM, so I basically told her not to sweat the small stuff and to just start reading it because she's not going to get everything straight the first time through.

The next day we met up with her for a church tour (which was its own huge success because she does not like to leave the house to go to unfamiliar places) and she told us that she had read 16 chapters of 1 Nephi! Holy cow! She didn't understand a lot of it, but she told us that she thinks it's probably true, she just wants that confirmation for sure. But she also said that maybe the fact that we knocked on her door at all is an answer to her prayers and she just needs to recognize that. It's going to be a longer process for her, I think, but she's making progress!

I'm super nervous because I've never had an investigator this far along and I kind of don't know what to do. I'm worried that I'm going to mess it up somehow. But I have to remember that I'm not the one doing the converting, and if she's truly seeking, she'll find her answer.

The only other noteworthy experience from this week was last night. We went to see a potential investigator named Jimuna that Sister Harris found on exchanges. She and her family are from Nepal and they're Hindu, though Jimuna doesn't practice. She let us in and we weren't able to teach because it turns out this weekend is a Nepali holiday (or Nepaliday, as I like to call it as of just now) so they were going out to party it up. But they let us try some of the food they made for it! There was this bitter green salad stuff and curry with potatos and cabbage, both of which actually made my lips burn because they were so spicy. And then there was this like mealy funnel cake kind of stuff called Roti, and it was super good. Jimuna's mom doesn't speak a lick of English but she was super sweet and nice to us, so hopefully we can work with them some more!

Then we tracted the rest of that apartment floor, which was interesting. It was mostly refugees, so not a whole lot of English was spoken or understood. Felt like we were in another world! Never knew what we were going to find behind each door, but we made some appointments to come back, so hopefully we'll get to teach more people there.

As I wrap up, I watched this video during media hour this week and wanted to mention it because I thought it was really powerful. We have a tendency to focus on what we're lacking and how we need to be more, and that sometimes leads us to lose sight of the more important process of becoming more. It's the process that we need to focus on, not the result, because we're never going to become perfect or reach our full potential. And we especially won't make that if we stop climbing the mountain because the peak is still pretty far away. Hopefully this can change your perspective a little bit, the way it changed mine.

Love you all! Have a safe and happy Halloween!
